Salamati 6.0 for rescued dogs by Levellers Foundation at Rise for Tails was held on 28th December’ 2024 in the memory of Shri. Ratan Tata; his life and works.
The architects’ team at Levellers Foundation led by founder, Samruddhi S Chaphale designed and made 28 dog beds out of scrap tyres and fabrics following the principles of 3R’s Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and distributed it to the Rise for Tails- Animal Rehabilitation centre.
The event began at 8 AM with a soulful song sung by, Tanaya S Chaphale, followed by tree plantation and dogs’ feeding program managed by Rise for Tails team at the hands of team members of Levellers Foundation and Rise for Tails. Later, with the brief introduction of the initiative, we remembered Shri. Ratan Tata and his deep bond with dogs. His quote, ‘A pet is no different from a member of one’s family today’ deeply resonated with us and hence this idea got initiated. Founders of the respective organizations, Samruddhi S Chaphale and Gargi Vairagare then launched the dogs’ bed followed by its distribution to the dogs at the various kennels. The event concluded with a vote of thanks to all the contributors, spending quality time with the furry friends and some breakfast organised by Rise of Tails.
The making process of these beds for Levellers Foundation team began with the identification of tyres of accurate sizes. The team at Deep Tyres led by Shri. Jagdeep Guglani came in to identify and provide the scrap tyres. For cutting of the tyres’ inner lining, Mr. Ashish Futane from AF Designs joined hands with us. For scrap fabrics, Sushil furnishings of Shri. Sushil Choudhary partnered which helped us in selecting good quality fabrics from their scrap collection. We thank them all for their valuable contribution. Rise for tails provided for its ambulance in transporting the materials from various destinations. Our color selection for paint and fabrics was crucial considering dogs’ visibility and for them to feel a sense of belongingness to their beds. The paints thus used for the tyres beds had low VOC content. Good quality waterproof centering ply has been used as base for the bed design.
The design and execution was met to high quality standards with the team of architects, contractors and sewers at Levellers Foundation namely Ar. Samruddhi S Chaphale, Ar. Shivangi Prasad, Ar. Kewal Rewatkar, Contractor Santosh Bawiskar, Sewer Nafis Ahmed and Tanaya Chaphale. We thank Smt. Gargi Vairagare, Shri. Saurabh Kalbande and the team at Rise for Tails for associating on this initiative to enable us in designing these beds for their rescued dogs.
And lastly this initiative wouldn't have been possible without the support of donors who contributed towards the cause. We thank them all!
