TREE PLANTATION

On 5th July 2026, at 8 AM to 10 AM, Levellers Foundation Mega tree plantation drive was conducted at Ravi Nagar Vasahat led by Ar. Samruddhi S Chaphale, Founder and Director. As a part of Levellers Foundation green initiative, a group of 50 environment crusaders of all age groups came together to plant 100 more trees this year, thus totalling up to 400+ trees planted since 2024 at Ravi Nagar Vasahat with a vision of making it the lungs of Nagpur city by strengthening neighbourhood-level urban ecology. Currently, all the trees planted are in active maintenance.

The event started with Shri. Rohit Deshpande, Nagpur’s Tree Man, demonstrating the technique to plant trees, followed by active plantation by all the team members and volunteers. Levellers team vehicle and garden labourers work force led by Swapnil Dhurri were facilitating all the volunteers in planting safely and with accuracy. The event concluded with discussion on the alarming situation of rising temperatures in our Nagpur city and the need for environment protection. We largely focused on the topic of rapid urban transformation driven by large-scale infrastructure projects such as metro expansion, fly-overs and real estate development. While this growth is essential for economic mobility and urban efficiency. However, it has also intensified, manifesting in declining green cover, raising urban heat, pressure on water systems and loss of ecological buffers.

Shri. Baba Deshpande, the Tree Man of Nagpur, who has been planting trees since 1976 and is our torch bearer in this project, emphasised the growing importance of planting trees being the only solution to reduce rising temperatures and ecological decline. Shri. Rohit Deshpande, specified the need of planting the right species and enhancing knowledge on the same. Ar. Samruddhi S Chaphale expressed how her architecture and design practice is largely influenced by environmental conscious approach with time and emphasised the need for AEC industry experts to opt for sustainable design solutions. RJ Preeti, voice of ‘Har Din Paryavaran Diwas’, encouraged volunteers to continue planting trees.

The Levellers team that made the initiative truly successful included Ar. Samruddhi S Chaphale, Shri. Rohit Deshpande, Shri. Baba Deshpande, Swapnil Dhurri, Tanaya Chaphale, Sankalp Godhgate, Prarthana Dongre, Avanti Chaphale and Shivangi Prasad.
