Year 2025 -100 Trees planted by Levellers Foundation on 8th June 2025 at Ravi Nagar Vasahat, Nagpur
We, the team at Levellers Foundation planted 100 more trees on 8th June 2025 as part of our ongoing tree plantation mission with our torch bearers Shri. Baba Deshpande and Shri. Rohit Deshpande, Tree Man of Nagpur. With their leadership and management by our founder, Samruddhi S Chaphale we continue to work on our mission of making Ravi Nagar Vasahat the lungs of Nagpur by impactful, consistent and sustainable plantation. With careful selection of good quality plants, to precise digging of pits, our aim is very clear; we just don't want to plant but we really want them to nurture and grow into a huge forest one day, says Shri. Rohit Deshpande. With the rise in infrastructure, we need to balance it with trees. Remember how we purchased oxygen in Covid. Nature gives it for free. Don’t betray it, save our planet, says Shri. Baba Deshpande says. The father-son duo after having planted more than 11000 trees in Nagpur continues to inspire youngsters and Levellers Foundation is fortunate to join hands on this mission and facilitate the cause, says founder of Levellers Foundation, Ar. Samruddhi S Chaphale.
Some of the notable contributions include donations from Shri. Ar. Shirish Beri towards Levellers Foundation and plants received from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation. We thank them and look forward to continuous support on this mission. The initiative was a huge success with the active participation from green crusaders who volunteered for the planting of 100 trees. These participants from diverse age groups and professional backgrounds joined us through a volunteer campaign that the foundation had run through their social media handles well in advance to meet such a huge target. This framed the team for Levellers Foundation and with careful planning and instructions, each one of us got sufficient water for plants and gardening tools. The team was given a demonstration by Rohit Sir on how to plant efficiently such that the soil doesn't disintegrate and the plant remains intact. All the trash was collected and the arena was kept clean.
Apart from plantation activity, the conversations and mentorship received from Baba Deshpande from his experiences over the years was memorable and insightful as part of this initiative. Baba spoke about the diversity, the urgency and the social responsibility that we all must carry. He encouraged and instilled hope for a brighter, greener and sustainable tomorrow if we continue to act consciously in our day to day living.
The event concluded with more discussions and brainstorming on maintenance protocol with respect to watering of plants that Levellers Foundation aims to work upon with Rohit sir as their upcoming target for peak dry weathers.
To conclude, following are the names of the green crusaders who made this mega plantations drive truly memorable and a success- Baba Saheb Deshpande, Rohit Deshpande, Samruddhi Chaphale, Avanti Chaphale, Tanaya Chaphale, Ram Diwakar, Rashmi Diwakar, Barkha Yadav, Pragya Gupta, Amber Gupta, Avinash Shahu, Shiv Shrungapawar, Dheeraj Deshmukh, Durga Tikapache, Vaibhav Tikapache, Darsh Tikapache, Priti Shahu, Pravin Deshpande, Bharti Deshpande, Ali, Ritu, Ashok.
Year 2024 - With the rise in temperature in our city, the green crusaders at Levellers Foundation decided to plant trees with and under the able guidance of the Tree Man of Nagpur, Shri. Baba Deshpande and Rohit Deshpande, who have planted over 10,000 trees across the city of Nagpur so far. Together we planted 50 trees at the Ravi Nagar ground, Nagpur. Levellers Foundation being an architects’ NGO, took special care with the proper digging of the pits for the plantation. Each volunteer carried two-four litres of water to nurture plants’ growth even post plantation. Baba Deshpande and Rohit Deshpande mentored the Levellers Foundation team on effective plantation techniques and thus fostered the team to plant efficiently without any breakage. With
the careful plant selection of Karanji and Rain tree done by Rohit Deshpande, such that they are shade providers, not eaten by cattle nor require too much maintenance to grow, we began our plantation drive. The event witnessed participation from passer-by’s too joining hands for the plantation. A lot of parents with their children joined the initiative to inculcate good value system in their kids through the plantation activity. We also added bamboo support systems to the plants to avoid damage during harsh weather. Our event concluded with an awareness programme guided by Shri. Baba and Rohit Deshpande on the role of architects in bringing social impact and how and why planting trees is the way to look forward to save our planet from the rising global destruction. Ar.
